Q. With your mission statement being as eco-friendly as possible, why are some of your products in plastic containers?
A. We stick to glass and re-usable containers whenever possible, however, PET plastic can be just as eco-friendly. We also consider PET plastic for products used with water where safety could be an issue, we made the decision to use recyclable PET plastic in those cases. Plastic is also lighter and therefore uses less fuel for delivery.
Q. Do you use palm fat in any Green Wych products?
A. No. Some years ago when the environmental problems associated with the destruction of orang-utans habitats, we stopped using palm oils, creating new recipes to facilitate this.
Q. Do you have a cut of date for animal testing?
A. No. Green Wych products never have, and never will be tested on animals. We also ensure our ingredients are sourced from like minded companies with a strong environmental and ethical policy, and who are against animal testing.
Q. Where can I buy Green Wych products off the shelf?
A. We have a list of reseller outlets which stock Green Wych.
Q. What is cetearyl glucoside? It sounds like a chemical ingredient.
A. This is an ecologically derived emulsifier (to blend fats, oils with waters) extracted without the use of solvents or chemicals, so is also skin friendly. It is made from a blend of corn and coconut extracts.
Q. Where does sisal, ramie, raffia and jute come from, used in your bath accessories and packaging?
A. Sisal is a fibre from an agave plant which can produce fibre from its leaves for up to 10 years. No chemicals are used in the farming, and it is a valuable bee plant as it flowers when there is not much other bee food around.
Ramie is a flowering plant related to nettle, and has been used for fibre for over 6,000 years, for example for wrapping Egyptian mummies. The plant will be harvestable on average 3 times a year, making it a good source of income for local inhabitants.Jute is a highly useful plant fibre which grows without the need for artificial fertilisers or pesticides, and protects against deforestation.
Our raffia is renewably resourced from the leaves of a tree helping to provide and maintain habitats and work for local people in Madagascar.
Q. What are hydrolats?
A. Hydrolats are distilled from the pure plant product, flowers or leaves, in the process of making essential oils, and is distinct from floral waters which may just be water with essential oil and a dispersant added. We use 100% Organic hydrolats in all our products.
Q. What is hyaluronic acid used in your Skin Boost Anti-Ageing cream?
A. This is a vegetarian version of the type of hyaluronic acid (which is usually derived from chickens combs). Green Wych uses hyaluronic acid from enzymes in a fermentation process. Hyaluronic acid is a natural constituent of skin and tissue which keeps the moistured and plumped out look when you are young, as you age, this begins to reduce leading to lines and wrinkles, using a product containing hyaluronic acid may help reduce the ageing process.
Q. What is cupuacu used in your Chocolate Mousse Mask?
A. This is a gentle exfoliant from the ground seeds of the cupuacu tree, related to cacao.
